The AIGS Student Volunteer Program is to provide an opportunity for those students who wish to spend their idle time to learn and participate in a project. The volunteer will be given tasks that relate to gemology and relevant to their interests and future career.

The tasks may include taking inclusion pictures of gemstones thus providing the person to learn more about gemstones origin, internal characteristics of gemstones as well as to improve the technical aspects of photography with a microscope and different lighting methods

Student will be assigned a supervisor and given a briefing of the nature, goals and objectives of the project. Successful delivery of the project will enable the student to receive a special "Seal of Distinction" on their Diploma and a Commendation Letter in recognition of their special efforts during their study at AIGS.

The average project last from 3 to 6 months with some up to 12 months continuing even after the student has graduated. The program is on a volunteered basis and no financial remuneration is involved.
